Linktree Has Suddenly be Blocked in India

Linktree the popular “link in bio” tool used by millions of creators has mysteriously gone offline in India, leaving influencers, small businesses, and marketers confused and stranded. The most surprising part? No one, not even Linktree itself, seems to know the exact reason behind the sudden blackout.

Over the past week, users across India have been unable to access Linktree through either its website or its mobile app. For a short period, the site even showed a message suggesting that it might have been blocked by the Indian government. However, the company’s CEO Alex Zaccaria hasn’t confirmed receiving any official notice or communication from India’s government about a ban or takedown.Later, that message disappeared and users only saw a basic SSL error page. This means the page either can’t connect securely — or the service is intentionally being blocked.

Linktree confirmed via a post on X (formerly Twitter) that they are aware of the problem affecting users in India and that their team is currently investigating.

Why It Matters

This isn’t just a small glitch India is Linktree’s fifth-largest market, responsible for around 7.3 million visits in July 2024 alone. Many creators rely on Linktree as their main hub to collect all their important links: YouTube, Instagram, online store, portfolio, blog, products, etc.

Linktree has over 50 million users worldwide they reached unicorn status in 2022 and a sudden shutdown in a country like India can seriously impact a large number of content creators and small businesses.

Who’s Affected?

According to reports from The Hindu, the outage is happening on all major internet service providers in India — not just one specific network. That means whether someone uses Airtel, Jio, VI or BSNL, Linktree is still inaccessible.
